It's the second time in a week someone has stolen a car while it was refueling at a Nassau gas station.

WESTBURY, NY — A man stole a car from a Westbury gas station Sunday morning before crashing it, and Nassau County police are trying to find him.

According to police, a 43-year-old man was fueling up his 2022 Mercedes at a Shell gas station located at 865 Carman Ave. in Westbury at 8:50 a.m. Another man got out of the passenger side of a nearby Audi and got into the Mercedes, driving away and ripping off the still-attached gas pump as he fled. The Audi also drove away from the scene.

The man who stole the Mercedes crashed into another car at the intersection of Carman Avenue and Hempstead Turnpike and drove off. The Mercedes was later found abandoned about a half mile away, near the intersection of Hempstead Turnpike and Park Boulevard in East Meadow.
