EAST MEADOW, NY — Following the death of an inmate at the Nassau County Correctional Center last week by a drug overdose, the county will be holding an investigative hearing into the matter.

Newsday reported that the county's Public Safety Committee will be holding a hearing on Dec. 14 about the death of 29-year-old Nikita Pertsev. Police have not released an official cause of death, but Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman said at the time that it was from a drug overdose.

On Nov. 23, police said Pertsev suffered a "medical episode" at the jail just before 1 p.m. and was taken to a nearby hospital. Pertsev was pronounced dead by a doctor.
