Nassau House Fire Leaves 1 Man In Critical Condition: Police
3 others, including a little boy, 6, were able to escape safely, police say.
EAST MEADOW, NY — An East Meadow man is in critical condition after being rescued from a house fire early Sunday, police said.
According to Nassau County police, the fire took place at 1:30 a.m. at a house on 8th Street.
Upon arrival, officers were notified that three occupants, a 66-year-old man, a 35-year-old female and a 6-year-old boy had safely exited the house, but a fourth man was still inside the home, police said. Officers then entered the house and raced to the second floor to perform a search for the man, 63, officials said.

The officers were able to find and rescue the man, police said. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation and extensive burns, and is currently in critical but stable condition, police said. No further injuries were reported, police said.
The East Meadow Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the blaze; the Nassau County fire marshal and arson bomb squad also responded. The Red Cross was notified and responded to offer assistance to the displaced residents.
