Nassau Man Driving Drunk, Got Into Crash With 3 Kids In Car: Police

Police say he had three young children in his car when he hit a parked vehicle.

NEW CASSEL, NY — A Nassau County man was arrested Tuesday morning after police say he got into an accident while driving drunk with three children in his car.

According to police, officers responded to the intersection of Elton Street and Anna Avenue in New Cassel just before 7:30 a.m. A 2002 grey Dodge Ram 1500 had hit a parked car and left the scene, police said.

The car was found a short time later on Union Avenue, near the intersection of Grand Avenue, and police say the officers pulled the car over.

Police say the driver — Eyler Ortiz Alvarado, of Westbury — failed a sobriety test and was placed under arrest. There were three children, ages three, four and six, in the car. Alvarado and the three children were all taken to a nearby hospital for assessment. He is scheduled to be arraigned today in First District Court in Hempstead.
