Open Warrant In Nassau Leads To Violent Exchange With Officers: Police
Robert Vitiello, of East Meadow, faces charges that include assault and resisting arrest, police said.

MINEOLA, NY — An East Meadow man, who was arrested on Thursday on an open warrant, violently resisted officers, police said.
Robert Vitiello, 53, was being placed under arrest by Nassau County Probation Officers in Mineola when he refused to comply, authorities said.
Vitiello charged at an officer who deployed a taser, which was ineffective, police said. A struggle ensued and Vitiello lunged for another officer's taser while making physical threats toward the officer, police said.

Officers were eventually able to subdue Vitiello and place him under arrest, police said.
Vitiello was taken to an area hospital for evaluation and treatment. A probation officer, who suffered an injury to his right side, was also brought to a hospital for evaluation.

Vitiello is charged with second-degree assault, resisting arrest, second-degree menacing and an open warrant, police said. He was scheduled to be arraigned on Friday.
