5 Farmingdale Nonprofits To Support This Holiday Season

Local nonprofits are doing great work in the Farmingdale area. Here are five that people may consider supporting this holiday season.

FARMINGDALE, NY — If you’re like many of your Farmingdale neighbors, you may spend a good part of the holiday season with your credit card in hand buying gifts for family and friends. Coming up soon is a chance to give back to the local community.

Giving Tuesday, which in 2024 falls on Dec. 3, is a day dedicated to supporting nonprofit and community groups. Since 2012, nonprofits worldwide have used the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to galvanize fundraising, rally volunteers and add momentum to their causes.

Maintaining funding is a constant challenge for many nonprofits that fill gaps and meet other needs in the Farmingdale area.

Here are five local nonprofits to consider getting behind on Giving Tuesday:

1. Adventureland's Helping Hands Foundation: Helping Hands is the non-profit branch of Adventureland that supports the Long Island community in increasing awareness about local issues, supporting local initiatives, and providing educational resources for community residents. The charity has scholarship and grant programs for students; supports toy and food drives; and has pledges with multiple foundations.
2. St. Kilian Parish: A pantry that provides food assistance and accepts food and toiletry donations. Serves the needs of those living within its parish's boundaries regardless of race, religion or ethnicity.
3. Clark Gillies Foundation: Helps children who are physically, developmentally, and/or financially challenged. This assistance can be in the form of payments for medical services, family financial aid, events to enhance the quality of life, and many other forms.
4. Mariam's Cafe Blue Brunch: Creates events, meals and fun centered around families with special needs children. Parents of special needs children can meet one another.
5. Farmingdale Fire Department; South Farmingdale Fire Department; East Farmingdale Volunteer Fire Company: These local fire deparments provide fire suppression and rescue services throughout the Farmingdale community and neighboring areas.
