East Farmingdale Firefighter, 63, Dies In Line Of Duty

EAST FARMINGDALE, NY — Michael A. Cardinale Sr., an active 25-year veteran firefighter at the East Farmingdale Volunteer Fire Company, died on Wednesday in the line-of-duty, District Administrator Joseph Scura told Patch.

Cardinale, 63, had just returned to the fire station after responding to a car crash when he suffered a medical episode and collapsed. He was treated at the fire station by EFFD paramedics and brought to Good Samaritan Hospital, where he succumbed to his medical event.

Cardinale is survived by his wife, his brother, two children and three grandchildren.
