Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued For Parts Of Long Island

The weather service advises moving to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.

LONG ISLAND, NY — A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect until 10:30 p.m. Wednesday for Nassau County and western Suffolk County.

At 9:44 p.m., severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Bayville to near Jamaica and moving east at 55 mph, the National Weather Service says.

The storms are packing 60 mph gusts that could damage trees and power lines.

The storms will be near:

  • Long Beach and Garden City around 9:50 p.m.
  • Levittown and Freeport around 9:55 p.m.
  • Massapequa and Farmingdale around 10 p.m.
  • Brentwood and Commack around 10:05 p.m.
  • Islip and Hauppauge around 10:10 p.m.
  • Centereach and Ronkonkoma around 10:15 p.m.
