Bids Come in on Number Six School
Three proposals on the table for former Five Towns elementary school.
, a Orthodox day school serving children in grades one through eight, has bid $9.2 million on the Number Six School in Woodmere.
The JCC of the Five Towns has bid $9.1 million on the property. A developer is the third bidder.
According to Lawrence Board of Education Trustee Rabbi Nahum Marcus, the Plainview-based Greiner-Maltz Real Estate, the commercial broker trying to sell the property at 523 Church Ave. in Woodmere, told the school board minutes before a meeting in March that HALB’s bid was received, the Nassau Herald reports. Marcus, who questions how the sale of the school has been conducted, said:

“I asked how long the JCC’s bid had been sitting there and the response was 45 days. It seems very funny that 45 minutes before our meeting, HALB’s bid comes in higher. Something’s not kosher. Either a board member called them, the broker called them or they’re damn lucky, and I don’t believe that they’re damn lucky. I’m not saying anyone did anything, but I do have my suspicions.”
Dr. David Sussman, a Lawrence trustee, said that Marcus’s position was completely incorrect.

The principal at HALB was unavailable for comment Tuesday morning.
HALB has two high schools in the Five Towns: in Woodmere and in Hewlett Bay Park.
