Five Towns Kiwanis Installs First Female President
Laurie Marks Law of Woodmere takes the top spot at the philanthropic club.
The Five Towns Kiwanis Club last Thursday installed its first-ever female president, who hopes to strengthen the group’s ties to the community.
Laurie Marks Law, of Woodmere, took the top spot that was held by outgoing president Chris Lindsley at an installation dinner held at in Cedarhurst.
“I’m very excited about being the first woman president,” she said. “It’s a wonderful group of very community-minded individuals, and I’m very happy to be their new president.”

The Kiwanis Club of the Five Towns was founded in 1944 and is active in raising funds for local charities, with children its highest priority. Law will serve a one-year term as its new head.
“I’m very committed to philanthropy and raising money for the community and children’s charities,” she said. “The Kiwanis club is very focused on raising money for children, so it’s a great fit for me.”

Lindsley said Law brings some change and perspective to the Five Towns Kiwanis.
“It’s a great moment in our club’s history,” he said. “I know the club is in good hands and I’ll be there to assist Laurie in any way she needs me.”
Another former club president, Anthony Campanile, had nothing but praise for Law.
“She is an extremely trustworthy and caring individual who devotes her time to her community and also serves on the Kiwanis pediatric board at North Shore University Hospital,” he said. “She brings a fresh approach to our club with her efforts and will keep traditions alive as well.”
Over the past year, the Five Towns Kiwanis has collected donations for more than 20 charities in the community and given out a dozen scholarships, Lindsley said. The group gave out flowers for Valentine’s Day at Mary's Manor and recently held a that raised about $20,000.
“I wish Laurie nothing but the best this year,” Lindsley said. “She does great work and does a lot for the club, and this is long overdue.”
He added, “We’d love more female members.”
