Hempstead Official Guilty Of Grand Larceny + Sanitation Death

Good day, people of Five Towns! It's me again, your host of the Five Towns Daily.
The Cedarhurst sanitation worker who was injured on Friday in a crash has died of his injuries. John Novello, a former Hempstead Town Official, has pled guilty to stealing from the Cedarhurst Republican Committee. Floors in an apartment building in Inwood separated Monday but no one was injured. Tonight there is a free concert in Cedarhurst Park.

- Jerry Barmash has an update on the injured Cedarhurst garbage truck worker. Henry Owens of Queens has died from the injuries he sustained in the Friday morning accident. (Patch)
- Timothy Bolger reports that John Novello has admitted to stealing $59,000 from the Cedarhurst Republican Committee. He was the executive leader of the committee and is the former deputy commissioner of the Town of Hempstead Buildings Department. Novello pled guilty to grand larceny Friday. (Long Island Press)
- Daniel Robertson tells us about the Inwood building separation. Floors on two of the four apartments in the two-story Building 10 of the Bayview Gardens apartments at 395 Bayview Ave. in Inwood separated yesterday. The Town of Hempstead closed the building to residents. No injuries were reported. (LI Herald)
- Jeff Bessen talks to Lama Letts, who graduated from Hewlett High School graduate in 2012, and who created the sports drink Hylux. The vitamin-enhanced water product company signed a deal to be distributed on Walmart.com. (LI Herald)
- Jeff Bessen also looks at an event Woodmere youth counseling nonprofit Madraigos held in Lawrence. The program looked at how substance abuse in young people might be affected by changing state marijuana laws. (LI Herald)
