Inwood Man Sentenced for Hiring Hit Man to Kill Teen He Molested

Daniel Miller pleaded guilty in April to criminal sexual act, conspiracy, and grand larceny, the DA said.

A Five Towns man was ordered to serve time in prison Tuesday for hiring a hit man to kill a teenager he molested, according to the Nassau County District Attorney’s office.

Daniel Miller, 48, of Inwood, was ordered to spend nine years in prison followed by 10 years of post-release supervision, the DA said. Miller will also have to register as a sex offender and pay fill restitution of more than $200,000 for a check scam, officials said.

Miller pleaded guilty in April to first-degree criminal sexual act, second-degree conspiracy, and second-degree grand larceny before Nassau Supreme Court Justice Angelo Delligatti, the DA said.

In January 2012, Miller sexually assaulted a 17-year-old male employee on his first day working at Inwood’s Botanica Inle Osain, a religious shop Miller owned, Nassau Police said.

Miller secretly put a sedative into the victim’s drink and sexually assaulted him while he was unconscious, officials said. After Miller was charged in April 2012 for the assault.

Nassau detectives were then informed that Miller had concocted a plot to have his victim killed to prevent him from testifying, the DA said. The informant met with Miller in jail and offered $15,000 to murder his victim while making it look like a cellphone robbery, officials said.

Miller’s sister, Ann, and mother, Mary, were also charged with misdemeanors for their role in the plot, the DA said. Mary had reportedly stolen the victim’s personal records from the high school where she worked, officials said.

Miller was also involved in a check scam in which he stole more than $200,000, officials said.

“Daniel Miller drugged and sexually abused a teenager, conspired to kill his young victim, and on top of that, stole hundreds of thousands of dollars in a bogus check scheme,” Acting DA Madeline Singas said. “Three different bureaus in my office investigated and prosecuted these crimes, and while we sought a lengthier sentence, this defendant will spend years behind bars and register as a sex offender.”
