Five Towns residents who fought in World War II and the Vietnam War on Friday were joined by the newest member, Shafeek Karamat, 29, of Far Rockaway, a veteran of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, to mark Veterans Day. "It's an emotional day," Karamat said. "Part of being a veteran is understanding what other veterans have been through. It's an honor to be around them." Karamat joined Pfc. John J. Oliveri Post 1582 two months ago when he walked in on a Saturday. "I'll be the next generation and take their place one day," he said. Quarter Maser Joe Depalma led members of the post in commemorating their fallen comrades.
