Cedarhurst's Summer Sidewalk Sale is back after the pandemic. Cannabis may be federally legalized and some Nassau residents are happy. Ben & Jerry's ice cream has spurred controversy by announcing the company will no longer sell its ice cream in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

  1. News 12 talks to a Rockville Centre hemp and THC product business owner and cannabis reform advocates about Senator Schumer's legislation for federal cannabis legalization about what the law would mean locally. (News 12 Long Island)
  2. News 12 also reports on the news that Ben & Jerry's ice cream has stopped selling its products in Israeli-occupied territories in the West Bank. The company said “We believe it is inconsistent with our values for Ben & Jerry’s ice cream to be sold in the Occupied Palestinian Territory." The founders are from Merrick. (News 12 Long Island)
  3. Jerry Barmash looks at a volunteer-run feline rescue group in Woodmere. The nonprofit Alleykattz.org rescues abandoned and homeless cats but it has struggled to find volunteers since the pandemic began. (Patch)
  4. Daniel Robertson has the update on the return of Cedarhurst's annual Summer Sidewalk Sale that started yesterday and will run until this Sunday. A new outdoor art show will also be held Sunday in Andrew J. Paise Park from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (LI Herald)
  5. John Asbury looks at the renewal of a major contract to study water quality in Nassau's Reynolds Channel and the Western Bays. The contract is for $183,000 for Hempstead and Hofstra University to monitor nitrogen levels and pollutants in the enclosed waterways. (Newsday)
