Members of the Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department rescued a dog on Monday night that had fallen into Bannister Creek in Lawrence.
At around 8 p.m., the department received a call from Harriet Rose, a resident of Harborview West, who saw the dog wander onto the docks in the back of her home.
“The dog was on the docks and it jumped in the water,” she said. “I knew it was a problem because it couldn’t come out.”

She then called LCFD, and firefighters quickly sprung into action wearing cold water rescue suits and tethered with safety ropes, according to Chief Joseph Sperber.
The dog was taken out from the water by firefighters on a raft and safely brought to land.

Although the dog had a collar and leash attached to it, it did not have any identification tags. The pooch is being housed at the firehouse until the owner claims him.
“They did a great job,” Rose said. “I’m hoping someone will claim the dog.”
