Here are the top four stories in Five Towns today:

  1. A Mineola man has been arraigned in connection with the hit-and-run death of rapper Nicki Minaj's father. Charles Polevich, 71, is charged with leaving the scene of an accident after he struck and killed 64-year-old Robert Mara on Roslyn Road last February. (Patch)
  2. An Elmont man is accused of pointing a gun at police on Friday at 5:30 a.m. on Hempstead Turnpike. Jose Rodriguez pointed a shotgun at officers from the window of a second-floor apartment and was eventually subdued by a Taser. (News 12)
  3. A Roosevelt Field Nordstrom worker was punched and bitten by a woman who tried to leave without paying for items on Thursday. Shatara Coney, 36, of Hempstead was then detained by the employee until police arrived. (Subscription: Newsday)
  4. A utility worker from Jacksonville, Florida was sentenced today to three and a half years to 10 years in prison for operating a utility truck while high on multiple drugs including meth, and striking and killing a bicyclist in Uniondale in August 2020. Matthew Mummaw, 34, pleaded guilty in October. (Nassau County District Attorney Press Release)

  • Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library will be open next Friday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and closed Saturday and Sunday. (Facebook)
  • Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department responded to a building on fire at the intersection of Burnside Avenue and Garden Lane in Lawrence early Saturday morning. There were no injuries. (Facebook)
  • Nextdoor Neighbor, Woodsburgh: "This dog was found in Woodsburgh and is safe in neighbor’s backyard. Anyone know whose dog this is?" (Nextdoor)
