Man Causing Roadway Disturbance In Nassau, Assaults Officer: Police

The officer and the man were taken to an area hospital for treatment, police said.

VALLEY STREAM, NY — A disturbance on a Valley Stream street led to an officer being injured.

Officers responded, on Wednesday afternoon, to North Central Avenue and Ethel Street, where a man was running in and out of traffic, police said.

The man refused to comply with officers' commands to leave the street. He became violent by throwing his cell phone at officer's head, authorities said.

Officers were able to get the man under arrest. The injured officer and the man were taken to an area hospital for evaluation and treatment.

He was charged with second-degree assault, resisting arrest and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He'll be arraigned when medically practical.
