Modernist Designed Geller House I Demolished
The Lawrence property, which stood since 1944, will make way for a tennis court.

LAWRENCE, NY — It's the end of an era in Lawrence as the Geller House I, designed by architect Marcel Breuer, was imploded on Jan. 25.
The modernist design, which stood since 1944, will be combined with another plot of land to become a tennis court, Architectural Digest wrote.
The home was named for its residents Bertram and Phyllis Geller, and Geller House II was commissioned in 1969, houses away from the original, AD wrote.

The Geller House I featured a Jackson Pollack painting and sleeping areas were broken up by an entry hall.
The Gellers passed the home on their children, who sold it in 1992, Architectural Digest reported.

The Geller House was Breuer's first residential project. He died in 1981.
