Hello, people of Five Towns! I'm back with the Saturday Five Towns Daily.
A man resisted arrested violently in Hewlett early Friday morning while being pulled over for traffic violations. An overpass in Lawrence will get a new name soon, to honor a late community leader. The pandemic has led to record numbers of Jewish Americans moving to Israel. Teenagers took part in a camp to learn firefighting basics. And Nassau County wants to know how transportation can be improved.

- Jerry Barmash has the story about a man who assaulted a police officer during a traffic arrest. Dwayne Gordon, 20, was pulled over at 1 a.m. on Friday at Route 878 and Rockaway Turnpike. He escaped arrest before being placed back in custody where he violently resisted arrest and head-butted an officer, police say. (Patch)
- The Jewish News looks at how record numbers of Americans are moving to Israel, partly due to pandemic work-life changes. Find out how a Woodmere family plans to be among them. (The Jewish News)
- Jeffrey Bessen reports that an overpass in Lawrence will be renamed for Inwood civic leader Pete Sobol. Governor Cuomo signed the legislation making the overpass on Seagirt Boulevard and the Nassau Expressway, also known as State Route 878, Peter V. Sobol Memorial Bridge. (LI Herald)
- Jeff Bessen also shares that Far Rockaway native Deborah Lipstadt has been named antisemitism envoy by President Joe Biden. The State Department position was elevated to ambassador level this year. Lipstadt wrote the 1993 book “Denying the Holocaust" and is a professor of Jewish history at Emory University. (LI Herald)
- Fox News looks at how Long Island teenagers, some from the Five Towns, learned fire and emergency basics at Camp Fahrenheit. The Old Bethpage camp hopes to get kids interested in volunteer firefighting. (FOX 5 NY)
- Alex Costello has the information on how to tell Nassau County what transportation improvements you want to see. There are two surveys: one for for residents and one for medium and large employers in Nassau. The surveys are here and will be open until Sept. 3.(Patch)

- Chuck Ristano Jr. is the pitching coach of Notre Dame’s baseball team who is from Valley Stream. He got to play with Trey Mancini, first baseman for the Baltimore Orioles, in the Home Run Derby at Coors Field in Denver on July 12, in Major League Baseball’s All-Star games. (LI Herald)
