Here are the top stories in Five Towns today:
- Alex Costello reports that police are looking for the driver who hit a Valley Stream man who was riding an ATV in Hempstead. He has since died of his injuries. Anyone with information on a dark blue, older model Nissan Altima, which drove off east on Peninsula Boulevard on July 10, should call the police. (Patch)
- Nassau County owes $17.2 million to homeowners over property assessments from the 2020-21 tax year. 7,427 homeowners will receive refunds after winning legal challenges to their November tax bills. Valley Stream-24 school district will get $33,162 in refunds to 37 parcels, with an average refund of $896. Valley Stream-30 school district is owed $36,545 in total to 44 homeowners, with an average of $831 per owner. (PropertyReporter.com)
- One Woodmere rabbi is speaking up about COVID-19 vaccines. Aaron Glatt is professor of infectious diseases and hospital epidemiologist at Mount Sinai South Nassau and assistant rabbi at Young Israel of Woodmere and "strongly advises that people who are able to get vaccinated as soon as possible and rejects arguments for delaying or refusing." - Newsday ranks the best hot dogs on Long Island and Completo at San Antonio Bakery & Restaurant, 174 Rockaway Ave., Valley Stream, makes the list for its Chilean version of a hot dog. (Newsday)

- Taylor Rose Clarke was a 24-year-old East Rockaway native who showed promise as a journalist at her high school and then Hofstra University. She received a heart transplant in 2016 but passed away earlier this month. Clarke was passionate about advocating for organ donation, her family said. (Newsday)
