VALLEY STREAM, NY – The small plane that crashed into the front yard of a Long Island home Sunday night ran out of fuel after several missed landings in heavy fog, authorities said.

The crash occurred on Clarendon Drive in Valley Stream at about 10:15 p.m. The pilot and two passengers – who the Associated Press identified as Dongl Kim, 27, and passengers Hung Joo-Na, 29 and Jung Woo, 26, all from Flushing – were able to free themselves from the plane, which became entangled in power lines, sources tell Patch. Only minor injuries were reported.

The Cessna Skyhawk took off from Niagara Falls International Airport at 6:12 p.m. and was headed for Republic Airport in Farmingdale, according to information posted on Flight Aware. The flight track shows the single-engine plane attempted to land several times at Republic Airport, coming within 700 feet of the ground each time before the pilot changed course and headed toward John F. Kennedy International Airport in Queens.

"They attempted to land at Republic Airport, they missed the runway four times, they were re-directed into Kennedy, they missed the runway twice at Kennedy - as they came around, they ran out of fuel," Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder said, according to a News 12 report.

A dense fog advisory was in effect at the time and Valley Stream Fire Chief Jason Croak said fog was a factor in the crash, the AP reported.
