VALLEY STREAM, NY — A rental housing project has received preliminary approval to be built in Valley Stream.

The $30 million, 63-apartment unit project is planned for 54 and 58 West Jamaica Avenue, the Town of Hempstead Industrial Development Agency (IDA) said.

The location is the former site of a funeral home and a vacant single-family house and is just a block away from the Valley Stream Long Island Rail Road station. The downtown business district is two blocks from the proposed complex.

"This project has the ability to help energize the Village of Valley Stream’s
downtown business district while at the same time bringing much-needed rental
housing to the Town," said Frederick Parola, Chief Executive of the Town's IDA.

Further IDA review, a public hearing, and a final authorizing resolution would follow.
