Valley Stream Man Needing Medical Attention, Assaults Officers: Police

VALLEY STREAM, NY — A man was taken into custody following a weekend assault in Valley Stream, police said.
Officers responded to a Fir Street residence on Saturday evening for a man needing medical attention. He became verbally combative with police, authorities said.
Attempts were made to de-escalate, but the man became physical, police said.

During the struggle, an officer fell to the ground, injuring his left arm and hands. The man also spit on the officers.
The man was subdued and taken to an area hospital for evaluation and treatment.

He was arrested and charged with second-degree assault, third-degree criminal mischief and resisting arrest. He was expected to be arraigned on Sunday.
