A sanitation worker was hurt yesterday in Cedarhurst. A golf outing in Hewlett raised close to $140,000 for a local hospital. Some residents are upset about dead birds and animals spotted at closed golf club The Woodmere Club.   1. Jerry Barmash reports that a garbage truck worker was injured yesterday morning when a semi-tractor trailer collided with his vehicle in Cedarhurst. The 67-year-old male victim is in critical but stable condition with multiple serious injuries, according to police. (Patch)
  2. Jeff Bessen has the details on a golf outing that raised almost $140,000 for Far Rockaway hospital's women's health center equipment. The St. John’s Episcopal Hospital’s 24th annual invitational golf tournament was held at the Seawane Club in Hewlett Harbor on June 28. (LI Herald)
  3. Jeff Bessen also reports that Lawrence Village has banned smoking. Anyone caught smoking, vaping, or marijuana smoking could receive a $250 fine. The measure was passed unanimously at a July 15 meeting. (LI Herald)
  4. The LI Herald looks into a controversy at The Woodmere Club: the club is involved in a litigious redevelopment plan. In April a chemical applied to the grass may have resulted in birds, squirrels and other animals dying. Residents reported the dead animals to South Shore Audubon Society. (LI Herald)

Daniel Robertson talks to a pair who bonded in an unlikely way: A Cedarhurst woman accidentally signed up to donate a kidney instead of to give blood and ultimately decided to donate, saving the life of former Jersey City police officer Anthony “Sunny” Silver.
