Warehouse Gets Final Approval Near JFK; Dozens Of Jobs Likely
The 3.6-acre warehouse takes over the land once held by Rockaway Metals in Inwood, the Town of Hempstead Industrial Development Agency said.

INWOOD, NY — The Town of Hempstead Industrial Development Agency has given final approval to a package of economic benefits for a proposed warehouse near Kennedy Airport.
The 3.6-acre warehouse would sit on a once-polluted site in Inwood.
AIREF JFK IC LCC, an affiliate of global real estate investor Los Angeles-based Ares Industrial, intends to spend $48 million to build a 68,000-square-foot facility at 175 Roger Ave. and 41 Cerro St. The site is the former home of Rockaway Metals and was later owned by Nassau County.

It is within five miles of the airport's cargo terminal.
"As this project moves forward it will transform a long-blighted property into a productive one and an active employment center," said Frederick Parola, Chief Executive of the IDA. "We welcome Ares’ interest and its investment in the Town of Hempstead."

The project includes 14 loading docks, and one drive-in door. The site will contain 68 parking stalls. It is expected to generate 50 construction jobs.
Work is likely to start next month.
