The Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce launched a “Lunch & Learn” program, which will be conducted virtually via remote video conference and feature leading industry experts. This free business education program will focus on providing the most innovative resources and strategies for entrepreneurs, small business owners, and freelancers.

In 2020, a third of the workforce in the United States (about 59 million Americans) were solo business owners or freelanced, earning a total of $1.2 trillion over the course of the year. This economic trend grew during the COVID-19 pandemic, increasing by twelve percent, and many members of the Chamber are now solo business owners and freelancers.

The Lunch & Learn program is part of the Chamber’s effort to address this changing economic reality as well as help our community get back on its feet after suffering from the devastating impact of the COVID-19 pandemic as well as the resulting surge in hate crimes and violence targeted Asian Americans, immigrants and religious minorities in the United States.

The topic of the first Lunch & Learn webinar was "Demystifying Taxes for Small Business" led by business expert Wendi Caplan-Carroll, who walked participants through the core tools and strategies for tackling taxes (and saving money) in today's complex business environment.

"Lili Banking for Business's commitment to solo business owners helps empower those building their businesses,” stated Wendi Caplan-Carroll, a solo business owner and SMB expert representing Lili Banking for Business. “Taxes are one of the biggest challenges stressing out small business owners. This workshop helps alleviate some of that stress by simply breaking down what taxes one would be responsible for and how to make sure you account for all those business expenses that may help you reduce your tax burden and stay more organized."

Attendees learned about: Taxes 101: How self-employment and income taxes are calculated; Smart Tax Tools: Leverage Lili to ensure you only pay what you owe; and, Get Prepared: Avoid penalties and organize your finances before you file. All participants received a copy of "Your Small Business," which includes everything you need to know about managing your business.
