The City Parks Foundation and the Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce kicked off "Puppet Time," a free outdoor family-friendly variety show featuring the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre at Bowne Playground, located on Sanford Avenue, between Union Street and Barclay Avenue in downtown Flushing, Queens. The performance is part of the Chamber’s back-to-school celebration in support of local students and families returning to in-person classes this fall.

"We're happy to present cultural programs like Puppet Time to our community and to welcome back the City Parks Foundation's PuppetMobile to the Flushing Greenmarket after a long hiatus," said Alice Lee, Chair of the Chamber’s Advisory Board. "Puppet Time is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the little things in life with your kids. Please join us!"

Songs performed during "Puppet Time" by the City Parks Foundation's Puppet Mobile program include Pippi,‌ ‌Peter‌ ‌Pan,‌ ‌Princess,‌ ‌Emperor‌ ‌&‌ ‌The‌ ‌Duck. The Chamber has partnered with the City Parks Foundation to invigorate and transform parks into dynamic, vibrant centers of urban life through sports, arts, community building and education programs for all New Yorkers. Today’s performance is the first in-person event at the Greenmarket since the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition to the Puppet Mobile team at City Parks Foundation, the Chamber was also joined by Freddy Ng, Marketplace Sales Manager for EmblemHealth; Win-Sie Tow, Market Manager at GrowNYC; and, volunteers from the local community.

In partnership with EmblemHealth, the Chamber distributed free tote bags to students at the performance as part of back-to-school celebrations for the local community.

The performance and giveaway took place at the Flushing Greenmarket, which is operated by GrowNYC every Wednesday from 8am to 3pm until November 23, 2022. GrowNYC and the Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce launched the 2022 season of the Flushing Greenmarket at a new location this year: in front of Bowne Playground on Sanford Avenue, between Union Street and Bowne Street, in downtown Flushing, Queens.

Operated by GrowNYC, the Flushing Greenmarket is open every Wednesday from 8am to 3pm until November 23, 2022. The Flushing Chamber partners with GrowNYC to promote the Greenmarket and coordinates programming with local businesses, cultural groups, and civic associations. Alice Lee, Chair of the Chamber’s Advisory Board, is coordinating programming to showcase local culture and encourage more people to visit the market.

GrowNYC's Greenmarket works to preserve local farmland, while ensuring that New Yorkers have access to fresh, healthy food grown in our region. GrowNYC ensures product integrity: everything sold at its greenmarkets is 100 percent farmer grown, produced, caught, or foraged in the local region. Farmers interested in selling their products at the Flushing Greenmarket can get more information and apply at grownyc.org.

Participating farmers include R & G Produce Vegetables from Goshen, New York. Farmers accept cash, debit and credit cards, SNAP/EBT (food stamps), HealthFirst OTC cards (CC & LIP members only), WIC & Senior FMNP coupons as well as Health Bucks (Spend $2 in SNAP/EBT/P-EBT, get bonus $2 Health Buck, up to $10 per day).
