Man Admits To Anti-Gay Subway Attack, Queens DA Says

Allasheed Allah of East Harlem admitted to pushing a woman on an E train last month after calling her an anti-gay slur, the DA said.

FOREST HILLS, NY — An East Harlem man admitted to an anti-gay attack on a subway train that left a Queens woman with a cracked spine last month, prosecutors said Thursday.

Allasheed Allah, 54, was arrested Thursday morning in connection with the Nov. 30 incident on a Manhattan-bound E train near the Forest Hills-71st Avenue station, the NYPD said.

He admitted to pushing the 20-year-old woman and calling her an anti-gay slur because he was upset she was kissing another woman, according to the Queens District Attorney's Office said.

"Crimes motivated by bias – particularly those involving violence – will never be tolerated in this county," Queens DA Richard Brown said in a statement. "When they do regrettably occur, they will be vigorously prosecuted and those involved will be severely punished."

Allah hurled slurs at the woman and her friend during an argument on the train, the DA's office said. Prosecutors say he told her "not to kiss her again in front of me because she was disrespecting me with all that gay (explitive) she been doing."

"I stood up and told her kiss her again you d--- (explitive) and watch what happens," he said, according to the DA's office.

Allah allegedly hit the woman in the back of her head and in her chest as she and her companion started to walk away from him, according to prosecutors. She hit her head and neck on a pole before hitting the floor and was treated for a fractured spine at a hospital, the DA's office said.

Allah is charged with assault as a hate crime and aggravated harassment, according to the DA's office. He faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.

His attorney could not immediately be reached for comment Friday morning.
