NYC-Based Italian Pizzeria Chain Comes To Forest Hills

Numero 28 Pizzeria employees confirmed the popular Italian eatery would open its first Queens location in Forest Hills.

FOREST HILLS, QUEENS -- An NYC-based Italian pizzeria chain whose locations dot the city - and other parts of the globe - will soon open its first Queens location in Forest Hills, employees confirmed to Patch.

Numero 28 Pizzeria, which specializes in authentic Neapolitan pizza, announced on its Facebook page Monday that it would be opening a new location in Forest Hills "...very soon" but didn't elaborate on when or where the new pizzeria would be located.

Management at the pizzeria could not immediately be reached for comment, but employees at two of its current locations confirmed the news. Both employees said they didn't know when or where the pizzeria would be opening. Oleg Kaz, owner of The Grill, claimed the pizzeria would replace his restaurant at 107-12 70th Road in a comment on a Facebook group for Forest Hills, Rego Park and Kew Gardens.

The Grill, a popular Mediterranean restaurant known for its kebobs and various fish dishes, closed on Dec. 3, Forest Hills Post reported. Kaz, who did not immediately return requests for comment, stated in a separate Facebook post that his restaurant had been "crowded out by Forest Hills' busy restaurant scene."

Numero 28 offers a variety of authentic Neapolitan pizza, baked in a brick oven and made from a family recipe handed down through five generations of Italian pizza makers, according to its website. Along with its pizza, the eatery offers Italian dishes like fresh lasagna, rigatoni alla Bolognese, eggplant parmigiana that are cooked in personalized wood ovens.
