Rego Park Among Snowiest Parts Of NYC After Friday's Storm
Neighborhood families can make the most of the snowfall and go sledding in two local parks, which are listed among Queens' best.

REGO PARK, QUEENS — Residents in Rego Park who've ventured outside might already know that their neighborhood is among the snowiest parts of New York City.
On Friday morning, after a snow storm hit NYC, the National Weather Service reported that 7.5 inches of snow was dumped on Rego Park, rivaling the half foot that blanketed most other parts of the city — including nearby Forest Hills, which was hit with 5.5 inches.
The snowfall makes Rego Park the third-most snow-blanketed part of Queens: Bayside got up to 7.7 inches, and East Elmhurst's LaGuardia airport was pummeled with 8.4 inches, grounding over 300 flights.

For New Yorkers commuting across the five boroughs, forecasters warned of "treacherous" conditions on untreated roads, and urged caution. Some citywide trains were canceled, too.
The snowfall didn't merit a snow day for NYC's public school students and teachers, according to the Department of Education, but the agency moved to excuse weather-related lateness.

The city did make some snow-related adjustments on Friday, too, like suspending alternate side parking through Saturday.
For Rego Park and Forest Hills families looking to make the most of the snow there's good news: two nearby parks are among the best places in Queens to go sledding, according to the Parks Department.
Juniper Valley Park in Middle Village, and Forest Park, on the border of Forest Hills, both feature big, sloping hills perfect for sledding down, the agency says.
