9-Year-Old Kid Robbed In Downtown BK Target Had Just Found Envelope Of Cash

DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN, BROOKLYN — A 9-year-old who was attacked and robbed of $282 in cash by two men in the Downtown Brooklyn Target last week had just found the envelope of cash on the ground nearby, according to his father.

David Square was walking from his school on Tuesday, Jan. 10 at around 5:30 p.m. to a 99 cent store on Flatbush Avenue that a family friend owns when he found the envelope filled with cash, his father, Mohamed Square, told the New York Daily News. When David found the wad of bills, he decided to make a run for Target, which is where the two men robbed him of all of it, his father said.

The two criminals told David he could buy a used Xbox if he went outside with them, Mohamed said. Once outside, one man put his hand over the boy's mouth while the other man removed the $282 from his pocket, police said. They both ran off with the money. Luckily, David wasn't injured.

The NYPD has provided surveillance video of the incident and is looking for the suspects. There have been no arrests, and the investigation is ongoing, police said. It is unclear whose envelope of cash it was to begin with.
