A Frightening Walk Home For One Clinton Hill Woman: This Week's Police Blotter

A rundown of the crimes occurring in the 88th Precinct in the past week.

Woman Robbed at Gunpoint While Walking Home in Clinton Hill

A Clinton Hill resident found herself face-to-face with a man with a gun on Wednesday, Aug. 17 at 12:25 a.m. near Clinton and Willoughby avenues. The woman, 29, was walking home when she was approached by a black male described as 5-foot 9-inches tall, in his early 20s and wearing a bandana. The man waved a silver revolver and grabbed the woman's raincoat with her iPhone, a credit card, ID and $80 cash inside, fleeing westbound on Clinton Avenue towards Myrtle Avenue on a bike.

Chase Bank Robber Caught

Devon Stevens, 34, was arrested and charged with at 402 Myrtle Ave. last Thursday, Aug. 18. The robbery occurred on Monday, Aug. 15 at 9:30 a.m. when Stevens passed a note to one of the bank's tellers reading, "Give me all 100 and 50 bills before I get to killing people." Stevens was apprehended by the NYC Joint Bank Robbery Task Force on W. 23rd St. in the Coney Island section of Brooklyn.

Man Knocked to the Ground and Robbed During Early Morning Attack

A 32-year-old man was near the intersection of Dekalb Avenue and S. Oxford Street in Fort Greene on Aug. 16 at 12:40 a.m. when two black males approached him from the rear, who punched him in the head and knocked him to the ground. The attackers then took the man's wallet from a pants pocket and his iPhone 4 cellphone from his hand. The victim did not get a good look at the two men who robbed him. $80 in cash and two debit cards was also stolen.

Robbery at Clinton-Washington "G" Train Station

A woman entering the Clinton-Washington G Train Station at Lafayette and Washington avenues on Wednesday, Aug. 17 at 8 p.m. was attacked by an unknown individual who pushed up behind her while she was entering the turnstile and grabbed her pocketbook. When she pulled back, the robber punched her in the face and grabbed the woman's iPhone with a white case from her other hand and fled the train station in an unknown direction.

CVS Robber Still At-Large

The search for the thief at The Andrea at Myrtle Avenue and Ashland Place continues. The robber entered the store on Wednesday, Aug. 17 at 9:40 a.m. and approached a cash register. The suspect then displayed a black firearm and demanded money, reportedly telling a cashier, "Put the money in the bag. Don't lose your life over this," and fleeing with $100 in cash. 

Man Brandishing Wrench Robs Woman in Clinton Hill

As a 25-year-old woman walked down the northwest staircase at the Classon Ave. "G" Subway Station at Classon and Lafayette avenues on Thursday, Aug. 18 at 9:58 p.m., an individual blocked her path and displayed an adjustable wrench as a weapon. After removing a wallet from the woman's hand, the suspect said, "What's in there?" The woman then gave the thief her pocketbook, after which the robber fled in an unknown direction. 

Woman Robbed in Apartment Lobby

On Friday, Aug. 19 at 10:10 p.m., a woman was followed into the lobby of a building on Clinton Avenue between Fulton Street and Gates Avenue in Clinton Hill by unknown intruder who stole her bag, $50 in cash and credit cards after brandishing a silver gun. The woman was not injured during the robbery.

$2,000 in Cash Stolen in Street Robbery 

While walking home on Friday, Aug. 19 at 10 p.m., a 40-year-old man was repeatedly approached by the same individual asking him for a cigarette. When the man refused for a second time to offer a cigarette, the suspect hit him with a metal pipe, causing a cut above the man's left eye. The man said that four more men jumped into the fight, hitting him in the face, causing cuts and bruises. During the assault, the men stole his cellphone and wallet containing credit cards, ID and $2,000 in cash. 

Officer Punched After Catching Car Thief in the Act

After observing a man prying at the driver's side front door of a vehicle parked in front of 83 Lefferts Place between Classon and Grand avenues on Thursday, Aug. 18 at 4:25 p.m., a police officer with the 88th Precinct approached the suspect to intervene. The man, identified as Kevin Mulraine, 27, punched the officer, kicked, screamed and cursed as he was brought into custody. Mulraine was arrested and charged with assaulting a police officer. 

Fistfight Leads to Some Serious Pain

Two men were jumped by a group of four males on Myrtle Avenue between Grand Avenue and Steuben Street last Saturday just before midnight. One of the victims, 22, walked himself into Woodhull Hospital with a swollen left eye and cheek and a possible fractured cheekbone and cut to the back of the head. The other victim was treated by EMS at the 88th Precinct stationhouse nearby at Classon and Dekalb avenues. 

Employee/Owner's Purse Snatched From Closed Restaurant

While conducting business at Bati Restaurant, an Ethiopian eatery on 747 Fulton St. in Fort Greene, a woman found her Christian Dior purse stolen with two debit cards, a red-black wallet and checkbook inside on Friday at 2:30 p.m. The establishment was closed for business at the time and the front door was locked. However, a front window was unlocked and open and may have provided a potential point of entry for the thief.

Woman Confined to Nursing Home is Robbed

The brother of a woman currently living in a nursing home facility found her 32-inch flat-screen TV missing upon checking on her apartment on Greene Avenue Sunday morning. The TV may have been stolen from the unit between July 18 and last weekend. 

Purse Grab at Marshall's

A woman left her bag next to a stroller while shopping at Marshall's at Atlantic Center Mall on Aug. 11 at 7:30 p.m. and returned to find her purse with two $400 money orders, Honduran passports and a Chase debit card stolen. 

Man Falls Asleep on No. 2/3 Train, Wakes Up Robbed

A 26-year-old male returning home to Brooklyn from 42nd Street in Manhattan woke up on the No. 2 or 3 train at Atlantic Ave.-Pacific St. station Aug. 13 at 3 a.m. to find his pockets cut open and his wallet with several credit and debit cards, T-Mobile 4G smartphone and unlimited monthly MetroCard stolen. 

iPhone Grab at Clinton Ave. near Pratt

A 32-year-old woman was talking on her iPhone 3 on Clinton Avenue on Tuesday, Aug. 16 at approximately 2 p.m. when three males came from behind and grabbed the device from her hand and fled westbound on Dekalb Avenue. 

Diversionary Tactics at "G" Station

One woman riding the G train northbound got schooled in a classic diversionary tactic for thieves on Wednesday, Aug. 17. At 8:24 p.m. the woman was engaged in conversation with an unknown individual, during which time another suspect "casually walked" past and snatched the victim's phone out of her hand. A total of three perps then fled the station. 

Car Break-in on Ashland Place

A woman returning her car parked in front of 161 Ashland Place on Thursday, Aug. 18 at 2:40 p.m. found nearly $3,000 worth of items removed from the vehicle including a GPS system, Sony camera, Toshiba laptop, $500 cash and a computer hard drive.
