'The Affair' Is Filming at Montero's in Brooklyn Heights
The perfect dive for a shadowy rendezvous.

The best show on television about cheating on your spouse has been filming all over northwest Brooklyn recently, judging by Season Two’s surprise pilot, which popped up on YouTube out of the blue last week. The first episode of this autumn’s run of ”The Affair” is chock-full of million-dollar brownstones, tidy stoops, nosy PTA moms — even a Hillary 2016 T-shirt.
And where better in Brooklyn to film one of the show’s signature dark, stormy lover’s meets than the only bar in the Heights with any grit left between its floorboards?

Brooklyn Heights resident Joe Sullivan, one half of the Brooklyn Heights Podcast, tweeted photos of “The Affair” shooting at Montero’s, beloved neighborhood dive, on Tuesday morning.
“Bet you didn’t know that Showtime is subsidizing your $3 PBRs!” he wrote.

A spokesman for Showtime confirmed the show was shooting at Montero’s on Tuesday. (And he said the show also shot at the Pencil Factory — a similarly dark, musty, nautical kind of joint in Greenpoint — last week.)
Montero’s has turned into even more of a nostalgia pit than usual these last couple months, after its owner, the impossibly friendly Pepe Montero, 68, agreed to sell off his Atlantic Avenue bar in a block sale of six adjacent buildings. If he and his neighbors receive an offer of $56 million or more, they’ll sell.
So let today’s shoot be a reminder: Last call for dark, stormy lover’s meets at the only sailor’s bar left in the Heights.
