Boqueria To Close Gotham Market Spot In Fort Greene
The tapas restaurant is the latest in a year of vendor turnover for the market.

FORT GREENE, BROOKLYN — The popular tapas chain Boqueria will close the doors to its Fort Green location in the Gotham Market next week, the company announced. The shutdown is the latest in a year of vendor turnover for the food hall.
Boqueria had been with Gotham Market since around the time it opened in January 2017, but recently decided the market-model wasn't working as well as their stand-alone locations around the city and in Washington D.C, a representative for the eatery said. The last night of service at the Fort Greene spot will be Dec. 20.
"The Boqueria team found that the overall level of business wasn't consistent or sufficient enough to be nearly as successful as their other locations," the spokeswoman said. "While the team was excited to be part of a market concept and are grateful to Gotham Market for the opportunity, they have decided to focus their resources on current upcoming projects that are best suited to their standalone model at this time."

The restaurant's departure comes months after a revamp at Gotham Market earlier this year. The market had nixed four of its six vendors based on feedback from customers and replaced them with three new businesses last spring, Eater reported at the time.
The food hall will still house Hungry Ghost coffee, Asian restaurant Hey Hey Canteen, Fulton Hall, Bolivian Llama Party and The Flamingo for cocktails. As of now, the market doesn't have plans for any other vendors to leave.

But, applications for Boqueria's spot have already started to come in, a representative said. The market plans to choose a new vendor soon.
The Boqueria team said they will miss their Fort Greene regulars and are working to relocate the location's staff to its other New York restaurants in the Flatiron district, Upper East Side, SoHo and at Dupont Circle.
When asked if the company might relocate to a new spot in Fort Greene, the spokeswoman said Boqueria will focus on its existing standalone restaurants and plans to open a new location in D.C.
