DUMBO, BROOKLYN — Two residents of the city-owned affordable housing tower at 177 Sands St. were seriously injured in a one-alarm fire that tore through the 14-story tower's top floor Friday afternoon, according to the Fire Department of New York (FDNY).

The fire broke out around 12:40 p.m., an FDNY spokesman said, and was brought under control by around 80 firefighters at 1:23 p.m.

Two people with "serious but stable injuries" were transported to the nearby Brooklyn Hospital Center in Fort Greene, the spokesman said.

Fire officials were not immediately sure what had sparked the blaze.
