
For the first time since Katz’s Deli opened its now-world-famous location on East Houston Street in Manhattan’s Lower East Side — almost an entire century later, in fact — the Jewish restaurant is opening a sister “outpost” elsewhere in the city.
Better yet, it’s putting the thing in Downtown Brooklyn.
The New York Daily News reports that Katz’s Deli in Brooklyn will be one of 55 vendors in DeKalb Market Hall, a massive food court currently being built into the new City Point mall under construction near Flatbush Avenue and Willoughby Street — slated to open in spring 2016.

Which also means that Katz’s historic second location will be mere steps from Brooklyn’s (sort of) historic third Trader Joe’s location. Which also means we are not likely to be bikini body ready for summer 2016.
“The main thing is that it’s hard to get down to the Lower East Side, and Brooklyn has been a strong part of our customer base,” Jake Dell, an owner at Katz’s, told the New York Times. “We can make it a little easier for our customers who have been coming for generations.”
