Brooklyn Technical High School Bomb Threat Evacuates School: Cops
An email sent to the school's principal saying there was a bomb in the school led to an hours-long evacuation for the Fort Greene school.

FORT GREENE, BROOKLYN — Hundreds of Brooklyn Technical High School students were sent pouring into the streets of Fort Greene Thursday morning as police investigated an unfounded bomb threat at the school.
Brooklyn Tech evacuated all students and staff from its Fort Greene Place campus after their principal received an email saying there was a bomb in the school around 6:30 a.m., police said.
"Kids are a little scared," ninth-grader Sofie Siragusa told Patch around 9:30 a.m. "From where I was standing outside, I could hear sirens. Others were saying helicopters were circulating the school."

Only about 300 students were in the building when the school was evacuated, police said, but soon thousands of students showing up to find the building closed off would swarm Dekalb Avenue and Fort Greene Park.
"There were a bunch of staff members making sure that everyone stayed away from the school and telling us where to go," said Siragusa, who showed up after the evacuation had started.

The students were eventually sent to Long Island University's campus as cops and five NYPD dogs swept the nine-story building.
They were allowed back into the school just before 11:30 a.m. after police finished their investigation and found nothing, according to police.

The evacuation briefly shut down parts of Fort Greene Place and Dekalb Avenue and New Yorkers were told to avoid the area, according to the city's Emergency Management officials.
Police said they are investigating the address that the email came from.

This is not the first time the technical high school received a bomb threat in recent years.
Back in 2013, police were called to the school after an anonymous tip came in about a bomb later in the school day. Police evacuated the school and searched school grounds, but found no evidence of a bomb, according to police at the time.
