Clinton Hill Indian Restaurant Shuttered For Mice, Contamination

Sapphire Indian Restaurant on Dekalb Ave. was closed by health inspectors last week.

CLINTON HILL, BROOKLYN — An Indian restaurant on Dekalb Avenue has been shuttered by inspectors for mice and other health violations found last week.

Sapphire Indian Restaurant was closed down after the Jan. 3 visit after inspectors gave the eatery 48 violation points.

Inspectors found evidence of mice or live mice and said that the facility was not vermin-proof, according to records. The eatery also had violations for food that was not protected from potential contamination and food surfaces that were not properly washed.

Sapphire Indian Restaurant offered dining, takeout and delivery to the borough, according to its website.

"Sapphire Indian Restaurant is a cornerstone in the Brooklyn community and has been recognized for its outstanding Indian cuisine, excellent service and friendly staff," the website said. "Our Indian restaurant is known for its modern interpretation of classic dishes and its insistence on only using high quality fresh ingredients."

It is the second eatery to be closed on Dekalb Avenue this year by inspectors, records show. Down the street, popular bar Brooklyn Nights was also shuttered earlier this year for violations found in February. Inspectors at the time said that there were no facilities available to wash equipment or utensils in the bar.
