
After a controversial expansion plan at a Fort Greene middle school , Community Roots Charter School is making another bid to find a home for its growing student body.
is now the latest target for the charter institution's latest proposal to extend its current K-5 curriculum.
As reported in The Local New York Times blog, a meeting will be held Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Fort Greene school located at 50 Navy St.

In a letter to parents after the P.S. 67 expansion proposal went down to defeat last spring, Community Roots co-founders Alison Keil and Sarah Stone vowed to continue the fight to expand their charter school from its current 300 students to 450 by 2013—with District 13 children given preference for open slots.
"We do not know yet how we will proceed on possible expansion for Community Roots, but we clearly have a much better idea as to what it will take to overcome the obstacles we faced this year," they wrote.

An element perhaps working in Community Roots favor this go around is the , which after years at P.S. 287 is moving to a high school in Boerum Hill.
"This building is clearly capable of supporting a middle school, as it has in the past, and so we are proposing to provide the community with another high quality option," said city Department of Education spokesman Thomas Francis.
The 13-member city Panel for Education Policy will have the final say in a vote set for Jan. 18.
