Downtown Brooklyn's Much-Hyped City Point Mall Won't Open Until Next Year
Highly anticipated City Point vendors like Alamo Drafthouse and Trader Joe's were supposed to open this summer.

DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN, NY — Downtown-adjacent Brooklynites patiently awaiting the opening of the massive, upscale City Point mall at Flatbush Avenue Extension and Dekalb had their hopes smashed again this week, when multiple mall vendors announced they wouldn't be opening until sometime in 2017.
Despite a new series of subway billboards with the tagline "Opening in August," Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, a beloved national chain of dine-in theaters, recently posted a letter on its website saying that after some "setbacks," the City Point location's opening date is now TBA.
"Getting a business open in New York is...complicated," Alamo Drafthouse management said in the letter.

Trader Joe's, a natural-foods grocer with an existing branch nearby, has also posted a note on its website saying its City Point location won't open until sometime in 2017.
The DeKalb Market Food Hall — featuring Brooklyn's first outpost of Katz' Deli — will also open later than expected, Brownstoner reported.

“We’ll be coordinating our opening with the other food-level tenants," Anna Castellani, a managing partner of the food hall, told Brownstoner. "As they are delayed, we will open when they are ready in 2017."
The Dekalb Market Food Hall will include 55 vendors, including Katz's, Forcella, Meltkraft and Ample Hills.
The Century 21 website and Target website both say they'll open in City Point this fall. As of Tuesday afternoon, we have yet to hear back from both companies' press offices on updates to their City Point opening dates.
