Fort Greene Nursing Home Wants To Relocate To East New York
The Oxford Nursing Home filed plans with the state to relocate to East New York after a new facility was shot down in Red Hook.

FORT GREENE, NY — A Fort Greene nursing home asked the state to approve plans to build a new $70.8 million facility in East New York after they failed to get a zoning change to move to Red Hook, records show.
The Oxford Nursing Home filed a certificate-of-need application with the state's Department of Health earlier this month for a 200-bed facility at 2832 Linden Blvd., which would replace their 144 S. Oxford St. location, Crain's New York first reported.
The application calls to decertify 35 beds in the East New York facility, lowering Oxford's capacity from 235-beds, but they would get rid of multi-bedded rooms they described as "ward accommodations," according to the plans. The new site would be renamed the Oxford Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility.

Oxford originally wanted to relocate its Fort Greene site to a 200-bed facility at 141 Conover St. in Red Hook, but it failed to get city approval to change the zoning in that neighborhood.
Councilman Carlos Menchaca spoke out against the plan because it would be built in a flood zone and he worried it would put the residents in danger. The City Council voted to shoot down the plans in 2016.

The proposed East New York site would not need any zoning changes from the city to be built, according to Oxford's application.
