Garbage Plates, Wine Bar: Clinton Hill Spots Top 'Hot' Eateries List

Two anticipated Clinton Hill eateries, one serving Rochester-style garbage plates and the other a wine bar, are among Brooklyn's "hottest."

BROOKLYN, NY — Two eagerly anticipated restaurants that opened in Clinton Hill last month are already among the "hottest" eateries in Brooklyn, critics say.

Brooklyn Hots, an eatery serving renditions of Rochester's infamous "garbage plates," and Place des Fêtes, a wine bar from the team behind Michelin-starred Oxalis, were both named among the 15 "hottest restaurants in Brooklyn" by Eater editors this month.

Both eateries, which Eater says are already among the borough's "dining destinations," are located on Greene Avenue, Brooklyn Hots on the corner of Classon Avenue and Place des Fêtes on the corner of Grand Avenue.

Editors said Brooklyn Hots serves "spruced-up versions" of Rochester's famed dish, which typically includes hamburger patty, macaroni salad, and other picnic items all piled onto one plate.

At the new Clinton Hill eatery, though, the heaping plates include less conventional toppings like broccolini and Beyond meat but are still "designed to be shared," according to editors.

One of the restaurant's other great allures is its "generous BYOB policy," which Eater points out is "meant to draw customers to next-door wine shop Radicle Wine, from the same team."

Nearby, Place des Fêtes has a slightly fancier vibe, though it's much more neighborly than Oxalis, which boasts a Michelin-starred tasting menu, editors point out.

Despite some of its pricier plates — like a $22 plate of fancy ham — Eater says you can still dine affordably.

"It's possible to sit down with a few glasses of wine here (most priced between $12 and $20) and some excellent desserts and spend under $50 per person," editors say.
