June 22: Whither Same-Sex Marriage Vote?

With holding up the State Legislature , all eyes are now on the Senate as it continues to grapple with one of the last items on this session's agenda — a bill legalizing gay marriage in New York. 

Now there is just one question: will the vote take place today, tomorrow or during a special legislative session stretching far into the summer?

As one equal rights group pointed out in a tweet last night, June 22 has particular significance for many LGBT people throughout the world. 

First, today is the 42nd anniversary of gay icon Judy Garland's death. Second, it was during this week in 1969 that patrons of the Stonewall Inn began a riot that sparked the modern-day gay rights movement.
