Kings County Dem. Committee Endorses Bill Thompson for Mayor

The Committee also endorsed Council Member Letitia James for Public Advocate.

The Kings County Democratic Committee has weighed in on the heated race for the Democratic nomination in the 2013 mayoral election, and the ball is firmly in Bill Thompson's court.

At a meeting at the Thomas Jefferson Democratic Club in Canarsie Tuesday night, "Bill Thompson received 22 votes, City Comptroller John Liu received [six], Public Advocate Bill deBlasio received two, and Sal Albanese received one - there were [four] abstentions," a statement from the committee said.

The Executive Committee also endorsed Fort Greene and Clinton Hill's own Council Member Letitia James for City Comptroller. James received 25 votes, besting State Senator Daniel Squadron, D-26, who received six votes, and Cathy Guerriero, who received only one vote.

Other endorsements included Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer for City Comptroller, State Senator Eric Adams for Brooklyn Borough President and District Attorney Joe Hynes for reelection.

However, in a change from past practice, the committee is allowing individual leaders to carry petitions or support alternative candidates.  "There are a lot of good Democrats running so we understand if leaders want to support some of the other candidates," said Chair Frank Seddio.

The Kings County Democratic Committee is the affiliate of Brooklyn's Democratic Party. It is one of the largest Democratic county organizations in the United States, and the largest that is not its own city.
