Last Day to Direct City Funds Toward Fort Greene Basketball Courts

And other projects in the Fort Greene-Clinton Hill area.

FORT GREENE, BROOKLYN — We’re nearing the end of 2016’s participatory budgeting vote week! Fort Greene and Clinton Hill residents only have until Sunday, April 3, to cast ballots supporting a variety of neighborhood projects.

The list of eligible initiatives depends on your City Council member. If you live in Fort Greene or Clinton Hill, you’re probably represented by 35th District Councilman Laurie Cumbo. (But if you’re not sure, you can use this online tool to figure it out.)

All residents can also vote at Brooklyn Borough Hall, located at 209 Joralemon Street, until April 1. Polls at Borough Hall will be open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The projects up for city funding within Cumbo's district are listed here. Some of those in Fort Greene and Clinton Hill include:

  • $36,500 for new "pin-able writing walls" to facilitate collaborative teaching at Public School 20
  • $500,000 for new walls, floors, and paint at the Willoughby Senior Center at the Walt Whitman Houses
  • More than $120,000 to install real-time bus information signs at busy neighborhood stops on the B65 and B44 bus lines
  • $210,000 to install NYPD-recommended security cameras in precincts 71 and 78

You do not have to be a registered voter to participate, and anyone 14 and up can cast a ballot. Just bring your ID, a utility bill or some other form of documentation that states your address with you to the polls.
