Myrtle Avenue Sees Addition of Benches, Tree Guards

For all those weary walkers and window shoppers looking to take a load off along Myrtle Avenue, you're in luck: the busy street will soon see the addition of dozens of seating areas, the Local reports. 

Fifty tree guards and benches are being added to Myrtle Avenue this month as part of phase two of MARP's Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership’s Street Furniture Initiative. 

Phase one included the installation of 40 bench/tree guard hybrids in September, which were designed by Pratt Institute students and alumni with input from the community, the Local noted. 

For the latest benches, MARP chose 24 designs from local artists and students, including preschoolers from Trilok School at 143 Waverly Ave.

“We just reached out to as many local schools as we could, art teachers, principals, depending on where we had contacts,” MARP Executive Director Michael Blaise told the Local, noting that three to five new guards or benches are installed every day between Classon and Flatbush Avenues.
