Smoke or Fog? FDNY Has The Answer

At least four engine companies called to investigate.

Several fire companies arrived on a stretch of Myrtle Avenue in front of Toren on Tuesday night in an apparent false alarm.

The culprit? According to fire officials at the scene at around 7:30 p.m., a few jittery residents mistook a naturally occurring phenomenon (albeit one more typical after a muggy late spring or summer night) for something much more sinister.

"People thought they saw smoke coming out from one of the buildings," a fireman, looking bored, told Patch.

As he spoke, the first of four fire engine companies left the scene with its lights and sirens off.

"It was really fog though," he added.
