BROOKLYN, NY — Things could be worse. Trump could be president. New York could be underwater. The United States could be in the midst of a years-long civil war with hundreds of thousands of innocents dead and millions more refugees on deadly treks to hostile nations.
But things could also be a lot better.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) announced Thursday that beginning next week, for two weeks, the G Train will not be running between Bed-Stuy and Kensington — aka, the majority of its route in Brooklyn — on weeknights between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Here are the details of the closure, courtesy of the MTA.
For four consecutive weeknights from Monday, June 6, to early Friday morning, June 10, and for four weeknights from Monday, June 13 to Friday, June 17, G Train service will be suspended between the Bedford-Nostrand Avenues station in Bed-Stuy and and the Church Ave station in Kensington. G service will operate between the Court Square station in Queens and the Bedford-Nostrand Avenues station, which will be the last stop. G Trains will not stop at the following G line stations: Classon Avenue, Clinton-Washington Avenues, Fulton Street and Hoyt-Schermerhorn Streets.
And here are the alternatives.
- Free shuttle buses operate between the Bedford-Nostrand stop and the Jay Street-MetroTech F station. Buses will stop at Classon Avenue, Clinton-Washington Avenues, Fulton Street and Hoyt-Schermerhorn Streets.
- Transfer between G Trains and free shuttle buses at the Bedford-Nostrand stop.
- Take the F for service between Bergen Street and Church Avenue. Transfer between free shuttle buses and F Trains at Jay Street-MetroTech.
- A service is also available between the Hoyt-Schermerhorn stop and Jay Street-MetroTech.
Good luck out there, Team G. And when you're on your third leg of the two-hour commute back to Brooklyn from work drinks in Manhattan next week, try to remember: At least you've got a home to call your own, in an overall quite lovely corner of a relatively peaceful nation.
