Walt Whitman Library's Leaky Roof To Be Replaced This Spring
The Fort Greene library's roof leaks so the city will start on a nearly $600,000 project to replace it later this year, officials said.

FORT GREENE, NY — The city will replace the aging roof of Fort Greene's Walt Whitman Library later this year because it leaks, officials said.
The city chose a contractor on Monday for the $569,932 project to replace the roof of the 93 St. Edwards St. branch of the Brooklyn Public Library, city records show.
The work's expected to start sometime in the spring, a spokeswoman for the library said. They expect to keep the branch open during the work, but sections may be briefly during the construction.

The branch opened in 1908, built with money donated by Andrew Carnegie, and was renamed after the poet in 1943, according to the Brooklyn Public Library.
