Savonn Dangerfield pleaded in March to second-degree murder, the Nassau County District Attorney announced.

MINEOLA, NY — A Hempstead man has been sentenced to 15 years to life for a fatal shooting in October 2018, prosecutors said.

Savonn Dangerfield, 27, pleaded guilty in March to second-degree murder and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

"Savonn Dangerfield wanted to get back at 23-year-old Jeffrey Lee after a perceived slight. The defendant caught up to Lee on Dartmouth Street and brutally gunned him down in the middle of the afternoon in front of his girlfriend," said Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly.

Multiple shell cases belonging to a 9mm semi-automatic pistol were recovered at the scene, Donnelly said.

"After the shooting, the defendant took off for Ohio to try to escape the consequences of what he had done, but law enforcement caught up with him. Now he will pay for his crimes in a prison cell," Donnelly said.
